Andaman and Nicobar with the hundreds of islands are the
heaven for the tourists and nature lovers. These islands shows a huge diversity in

- MIXED CULTURE
The Andamanese have an extraordinary and rich culture and
traditions. The people of this island are divided by two categories namely the
indigenous tribal people and the out sider who settled in the territory due to
the fact of the colonial rule. It brings the lot of visitors who are mainly
attracted by the native population upholding the richness, ethnicity and the
customs of the islands.
- THIS IS ONLY PLACE IN INDIA WITH ACTIVE VOLCANO
The only active volcano of India is in the Barren island of
Andaman. And It is the only confirmed active volcano in South Asia too. The
first recorded eruption of the volcano dates back to 1787. Barren Island,
situated 135 km away from Port Blair, is where you can see this live
volcano.
- LAND OF ABORIGINALS
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is home to 4 Negrito and 2 Mongoloid tribes. Those belonging to the Negrito origin – the Great Andamanese, the Onge, the Jarawas and the Sentinelese - are still at hunting-gathering stage of economy. The Mongoloid origin, Nicobarese, has accepted the challenge of change and have prospered and multiplied. The members of the other Mongoloid community, the Shompen, still shy away from outsiders.
The Jarawa, Onge, Sentinelese and Great Andamanese are thought to have travelled to the Andaman Islands from Africa up to 60,000 years ago. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands remained the abode of the Negritos and the Mongoloids, who occupied the Islands for centuries.

- LAND OF RARE AND SHY LIVING BEING
This island is really the home of many rare species, you
could find here. This is the land of largest living arthropod Birgus Latro, a
type of crabs. “Dugong” which is also the state animal of Andaman and Nicobar.
These sea mammals are extremely shy to mate. There are only five breeding
center for these sea mammals and that’s why it is so special. These Islands are
also famous for the flocs of butterflies which comes from nearby tropical
islands. About 50 varieties of forest mammals are found to occur in the Andaman
and Nicobar Islands. Some are endemic, including the Andaman Wild Boar. Rodents
are the largest group with 26 species, followed by 14 species of bat.
- ANDAMAN IS THE LARGEST NEST OF SEA TURTLES
These islands inhabit endless marine cultures, but the most
famous of them all are sea turtles. Four species of marine turtles occur in the
Andaman and Nicobar Islands: the leatherback, hawksbill, green and olive ridley
turtle. Historically, marine turtles in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have
always been mentioned in association with the indigenous people of the islands,
since turtles were an important food source for the original inhabitants. But now
these are under the protected animals list.

- CELLULAR JAIL “THE KALA PAANI”
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani situated in the
Andaman and Nicobar Islands (India). The prison was known to house many notable
Indian activists during the struggle for India's independence. The Cellular
Jail is one of the murkiest chapters in the history of the colonial rule in
India. The construction of the prison started in 1896 and was completed in
1906. The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani situated in the Andaman and

- RICH FOREST
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a tropical rainforest
canopy, made of a mixed flora with elements from Indian, Myanmar, Malaysian and
endemic floral strains. So far, about 2,200 varieties of plants have been
recorded, out of which 200 are endemic and 1,300 do not occur in mainland
India.
This tropical rain forest, despite its isolation from
adjacent land masses, is surprisingly rich with a diversity of animal life.
