Top 10 Indian Stadiums and Sports Complex



          India is the second largest country in the world by it’s population and more people means more players of different sports. For playing and practicing in a best way it requires the good grounds and stadiums. India has thousands of sport's gounds and hundreds of sport's stadiums but here in this post we are going to know about the stadiums in India which are huge in size and large with spectators capacity. So friends let's go for a little tour of these top 10 big stadiums in India. 


1. Buddha International Circuit, Noida

          Buddha International Circuit is a motor racing circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This is one and only racing circuit of its type in india. The track was officially inaugurated on 18 October 2011. The circuit is part of the 2,500-acre (1,000 ha) Jaypee Greens Sports city. Estimated to cost about ₹200 crores ($400 million) to build, the circuit has an approximate length of 5.13 km and is spread over an area of 874 acres (354ha). The seating capacity of the circuit is 110,000 with provisions to increase it to 200,000 later on. Circuit was best known as the venue for the annual Fomula one Indian Grand Prix, which was first hosted on 30 October 2011 but has been suspended since 27 October 2013 due to a tax dispute with the Uttar Pradesh go


2. Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata



          This stadium is known for its football fever as the stadium is famous for the hardcore soccer wars and heavy fan crowd. This stadium is also known as “Yuva Bharti Kridangan”. Indian Football association is the owner of this huge stadium. The stadium was established in 1984 because the club grounds in the Maidan area, each with capacity around 20,000, were proving too small for the huge crowd that occupied the grounds on matchdays. Before its renovation in 2011, it was the second largest football stadium in the world, having a seating capacity of 120,000. In present  with a current capacity of 68,000. 
          Reportedly, a total of 85,000 bucket seats will be installed in the stadium before the 2017 FIFA World Cup Under-17 to be held in India. The stadium will possibly host the final match of the U-17 World Cup, alongside hosting other matches of the tournament.



3. Eden Gardens, Kolkata


          This stadium is a well known cricket stadium in India, and the home ground of Bengal cricket team and IPL’s  Kolkata Knight Riders. With a seating capacity of 66,000, it is the largest cricket stadium in India, and the second largest cricket stadium in the world  behind the Melbourne cricket stadium. This stadium is known as one of the most iconic cricket stadium in the world. Before 1984, both cricket and derby football matches were played in Eden Garden. The stadium has hosted matches in major competitions including the World Cup, World Twenty20, Asia Cup and Indian Premier League matches.



4. Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium Kochi



          This International stadium is situated in Kaloor, Kochhi, Kerala. This beautiful cricket staium is also known as Kaloor international Stadium. It has the audience capacity of 60,000 and can be stretched to 75,000. The stadium was built in 1996 by the Government of Kerala. The stadium is widely touted to be one of the most noisiest cricket stadium in the world due to its distinctive architecture, however it is to be noted here that the stadium was originally built as a Football stadium. The extensive grounds of the stadium serve as venue for important exhibitions, cinema events and political rallies in the city. The stadium acts as the home ground for teams including Kerala cricket team, Kerala Blasters FC (Indian Super League).
          Kochi is selected as one of the six host cities for 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in India. This stadium will be the venue for matches in Kochi.



5. Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, Delhi



          This stadium is the most famous sports stadium in capital of the country. This is a multi sports complex and has a beautiful track and field inside this. It offers 60.000 audience seats and can be stretched up to 100,000 for a concert. Because its location in the capital area it has so many houses and headquarters of sports authorities.
          The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was constructed by the Government of India to host the 9th Asian Games in 1982, following which it hosted the 1989 Asian Championships in Athletics and the 2010 Commonwealth Games.



6. D Y Patil Stadium, Mumbai



          This sports arena is situated in Nirula, Mumbai, Maharastra and the stadium has a capacity of 55,000 people. The stadium has all the facilities of an international football and a cricket stadium. It is the first cricket stadium in the world to have full-fledged concert level reinforced music system. Luxury suites with attached rest rooms ensure that guests stay in comfort. Catering support is provided in the main pavilion area.
          The stadium was officially inaugurated on 4 March 2008, and was the home ground for IPL team Mumbai Indians . It hosted 3 IPL matches for the Mumbai Indians and has also hosted the 2008 Indian Premier League Final.
          It is the home ground of the ISL franchise Mumbai City FC . All Mumbai City FC home matches were played in DY Patil stadium. It also hosted the Final of Hero ISL 2014 between Atlético de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters FC . The stadium is one of the proposed stadiums which will host 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.



7. Trivendrum International Stadium



           Trivendram International sports stadium is also known as the Green Field international stadium. The stadium is located at Kariavattom in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala. The playing arena in the stadium has been constructed in line with  FIFA  regulations  and International Cricket Council norms so that can be used for both cricket and football. It has a seating capacity for 55,000 spectators. It has facilities for indoor sports like table tennis, basketball, badminton etc., a gymnasium and spa, a club house with five star facilities, tennis court, Olympic size swimming pool, open convention cum trade cum exhibition centre, retail outlets, food courts, club facilities, car parking, etc.
           The stadium has witnessed the opening of the 35th National Games of India. The first international football tournament hosted by the stadium was the 2015 SAFF championship.


8. M Chinnaswami Stadium, Bengaluru



           This well constructed sports stadium is situated in Bengaluru, Karnataka, is one of the best cricket stadiums of India. This stadium with a seating capacity of around 35,000 not only regularly hosts Test cricket, One Day Internationals (ODI) and other First-class cricket matches, but also other musical and cultural events. The stadium is also the home ground of  the Karnataka state cricket team and the Indian Premier League franchise  Royal  Challengers  Bangalore. The KSCA now plans to increase the seating capacity to 70,000.
           After the launch of the IPL, it has also become the home ground of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. This stadium has hosted One Day International (ODI) matches for all editions of the World cups, when India was a host/co-host.



9. Sardar Ptel Stadium, Motera



             Sardar Patel stadium of Gujrat is also known as the Motera stadium situated in the motera area, Gujrat. It is the largest stadium in the state of Gujarat with an official capacity  of 49,000  spectators. As of October 2015, the stadium is being demolished in order to be revamped to be the largest cricket stadium in the world with seating capacity of 100,000. The revamped stadium is planned to be like the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
            The stadium was one of the host venues for 2011 Cricket World Cup held in India.


10. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai 



              The Wankhede Stadium is a cricket stadium in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The stadium now has capacity of 33,108, following renovations for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Before the upgrade, the capacity was approximately 45,000. The Wankhede Stadium was built in 1974 and the first Test match played was between India and West Indies from 23 to 28 January 1975. One of the highlights of the stadium is the suspended cantilever roofs. The Teflon fabric roof is lighter in weight and heat resistant. There is no beam support for the roof  to ensure that the spectators will have a better view. On the roof there are exhaust fans which suck the hot air from the stands and allow the breeze from the West to flow in. The stadium has 20 elevators for North and South stands. Hosted cricket world cup final 2011 held in India.
